There always going to be, what you call, hope when you kill and abuse that many of their people. The people of Iraq have just become so exhausted and so wounded by the violence and abuse of the US occupation. The British subjected a nation (India) at least 100 times their size. It didn't mean it was right.
What are defenseless civilian population supposed to do in front of armed tanks and racist invaders calling them Hajis and abusing them on a daily basis?
When Germany invaded France, they installed a "friendly government" run by French citizens who believed in the "noble" German cause...they so believed in it that they were willing to sacrifice for it.
Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
